Is AERIUS® for Children Syrup also changing its brand to Desonex™ or is AERIUS® for Children Syrup still available?
No, AERIUS® for Children Syrup is not being rebranded to Desonex™ syrup. AERIUS® for Children Syrup contains the active ingredient, desloratadine 2.5 mg/5 mL. AERIUS® for Children Syrup is indicated for perennial and seasonal allergic rhinitis (hayfever and year round allergies) in adults, adolescents and children aged 12 months and over and chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives) in adults, adolescents and children aged 6 months and over. AERIUS® for Children Syrup will continue to be available in pharmacies across Australia in packs of 60 mL and 100 mL.
How long will it take until I can expect relief from AERIUS®?
Usually you should experience relief 1 to 3 hrs after having taken AERIUS®
What symptoms does it relieve?
AERIUS® provides relief of hayfever and perennial allergic rhinitis symptoms such as itchy/ watery eyes, nasal congestion, itchy/runny nose, sneezing and itchy throat/palate. AERIUS® can also relieve itchy skin due to hives.
When do I take AERIUS®?
AERIUS® is a non-drowsy medication, which can be taken anytime. Take AERIUS® as soon as the first symptoms of allergy appear, for effective relief.
How often can I take AERIUS®?
AERIUS® is to be taken once a day only.
Can I use AERIUS® for children?
Yes, the AERIUS® for Children Syrup is suitable for children. It has a pleasant bubblegum flavour and comes with a dosing syringe, which makes it easy to accurately administer. AERIUS® for Children Syrup is suitable to relieve allergy symptoms for children from 12 months of age and for children as young as 6 months for the treatment of hives.
Do allergic children become allergic adults?
Allergic sensitisation tends to persist but symptoms may resolve. The earlier that airborne allergy appears, the more likely it is to persist into adolescence and adulthood.
What is the main difference between a cold and hayfever allergy?
The common cold and allergies display many of the same symptoms such as: runny, itchy
nose and eyes; sneezing; fatigue and headaches. However, there are some differences. You
are probably suffering from an allergy if:
- There is no fever.
- Mucous secretions are clear and runny.
- Sneezes occur in rapid, multiple sequence.
- Itchiness in nose, ears and throat is present.
- Symptoms last longer than the typical duration of a cold, which is generally around 7 days.
What are the available packs sizes?
For Adults we have 10, 30 and 45 tablets and for Children we have 60ml and 100ml syrups, which includes a dosing syringe.
Can the product be halved or crushed? Can the product be mixed with food or another liquid?
As AERIUS® is a film coated tablet, it should be swallowed whole. We cannot recommend that AERIUS® tablets be crushed, halved or mixed with food or another liquid.
Can I take AERIUS® during pregnancy?

What is the dosage of AERIUS® for Children Syrup?
For hayfever (allergic rhinitis) the standard dosage is:

What is the dosage of AERIUS® Tablets?
Adults and children 12 years and over – one tablet once daily.
Not recommended for children under 12 years.
Take Aerius tablets at the earliest signs of hayfever & allergy symptoms for optimum relief.
Use daily until symptoms have resolved.
Does AERIUS® make you drowsy?
AERIUS® FOR CHILDREN & AERIUS®
At the recommended dose, this medicine is not expected to make you drowsy. Although most people do not experience drowsiness, it is recommended not to engage in activities requiring mental alertness until you have established your own response to the medicinal product.
